Commenting on the joint report by Estyn and CSSIW on the safeguarding of children in education services in Pembrokeshire, Angela Burns AM, Shadow Minister for Education, said:
"This report identifies serious failings, which are all the more astonishing given that Pembrokeshire County Council was rated as one of the top three Welsh education authorities only three years ago.
"Systemic failings must be examined root and branch and addressed to restore the credibility of education services in the county.
"While safeguarding children must be the number one priority, we also need reassurances that teaching standards are sufficiently robust to make the most of the skills and talents of young people."
Paul Davies, AM for Preseli Pembrokeshire, said, "This report raises worrying concerns regarding the life chances of young people across the county.
"Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government now need to work together to resolve these issues as a matter of priority to ensure the protection of children in Pembrokeshire."
