Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has visited Ysgol Llanychllwydog in Pontfaen, to present nine-year old Cerys Davies with a prize for winning the National Federation of Builders' 2012 "Stay Safe, Stay Away" poster competition, for the whole of Wales. The NFB "Stay Safe, Stay Away" campaign aims to promote the dangers posed by building sites and to raise awareness and educate young people about the hazards at construction areas.
Following his visit to the school, Mr Davies said, "It was a real pleasure to present Cerys with a certificate for winning this year's poster competition. She has done an excellent job and is a very worthy winner. The poster competition is a fun way of reinforcing some serious messages about the dangers of construction sites and as the school holidays approach us again, it is important to remind children about the need to stay away from them. Building sites are not playgrounds and it is important that children in Pembrokeshire understand that they can seriously hurt themselves in construction areas."
Julia Evans, Chief Executive of the NFB said: "I am delighted that our campaign goes from strength to strength every year. For every child who is made aware of the dangers of building sites, it is potentially a life saved. Our members work hard to ensure that they operate responsibly and it is great to see thousands of schools passing on the message to pupils."
