Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has welcomed the Welsh Government's announcement on the Next Generation Broadband for Wales project and is calling for the Welsh Government to ensure that the rollout properly reaches all broadband 'not-spots' across Wales. The Welsh Government has signed a deal with BT to upgrade the network for 96% of properties by 2015.
Mr Davies said, "This decision has been a long time coming and whilst I welcome this important announcement, it is vital that not-spot areas like parts of Pembrokeshire are brought up to speed appropriately. This investment will be a failure if rural communities are left behind in broadband 'not-spots', while the rest of Wales benefits from a super-fast service. Sadly, there is very little detail in the Minister's statement on the precise detail of the roll-out and so I remain a little sceptical on this issue until it is confirmed that the people of Pembrokeshire will be definitely benefit from this project. I very much hope that the Minister will ensure that this is the case and I will monitor this issue in the meantime. I now look forward to the Minister's update in the Autumn, which I hope will provide more detail on which areas will be targeted by the project, as well as more detail on the technology that will be deployed."
