Local Assembly Member Paul Davies is supporting the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust #SmearForSmear campaign, which marks the beginning of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of cervical cancer and the importance of prevention with a focus on cervical screening (smear test).
Mr Davies said: “I’m proud to be supporting the #SmearForSmear campaign, to raise awareness of cervical cancer and spread the message that it can be prevented. Sadly, more than one in five women do not attend a cervical screening each year in the UK, and so more needs to be done to encourage women about the importance of cervical screenings. Eight women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every day and three women a day die from the disease – that’s why we must continue to encourage women to have a cervical screening and reduce their risk of cervical cancer.
