Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is pledging his support for Carers Week 2016. Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. 370,000 people in Wales currently care for a disabled, ill or older family member or friend. Research for Carers Week 2015 revealed that carers are experiencing huge variations in the level of support and recognition they get from their local community. As a result, this is putting their health and ability to look after the person they care for at serious risk.
Mr Davies said, “I’m honoured to once again support Carers Week and to show my gratitude and support for the countless number of carers in Pembrokeshire. Carers are often the unsung heroes of our communities, many of whom struggle themselves without access to the right support and guidance. It’s important therefore, that politicians at all levels of governance take a moment to reflect on the compassion and selflessness shown by carers and do more to ensure that support and advice is available to carers. For more information on the events being held both nationally and locally this week, visit http://www.carersweek.org/ for more information.”
