Local Assembly Member Paul Davies recently visited Duckspool Farm in Wiston to meet with officials from the Pembrokeshire NFU branch to discuss the Welsh Government’s proposals for Nitrate Vulnerable Zones. The Welsh Government has issued a consultation on its plans for Nitrate Vulnerable Zone designations, which will close on 23rd December.
Mr Davies said: “It was a pleasure to meet with officials to discuss the Welsh Government’s consultation on Nitrate Vulnerable Zones in Wales. Sadly, neither of the options put forward by the Welsh Government are acceptable to farmers in Pembrokeshire, who are already facing tough market conditions and bovine TB restrictions. The Welsh Government’s plans will have serious financial consequences for local farmers, many of whom simply cannot afford to build additional storage facilities.”
He added, “That’s why it’s more important than ever that local farmers feed into the consultation and make their voices heard. Today’s visit gave me an opportunity to see for myself first-hand some of the challenges that farmers may face as a result of these regulations and so it’s crucial that as many people as possible feed into the Welsh Government’s consultation on this issue.”
