Pembrokeshire politicians Paul Davies AM and Angela Burns AM joined around 100 people last Wednesday evening at the Countryside Alliance Rural Oscars for Wales.
The awards which cover five categories and had over 7000 nominees celebrate the best of Wales’ rural economy and aim to highlight the excellent range of small businesses that are so vital to the Welsh economy.
Three Pembrokeshire based businesses were recognised in winning awards at the event. Sian and Geraint Bowen who run Bethesda Farm Shop near Narberth were highly commended in the Butcher category and Megan Davies, owner of Rhwbeth Melys cake company in Maenclochog, was highly commended in the Local Food category. Pembrokeshire Falconry won first place in the Tourism category and go forward to the UK awards which are hosted in Westminster later on this year.
Commenting after the awards Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns said; “I am constantly amazed with the range of excellent small, rural businesses that exist in Wales, a small number of which are represented here tonight. I am delighted that Pembrokeshire is so well represented and it has been fascinating to learn the stories about how these businesses have come about. I would like to congratulate all of the winners tonight and I look forward to following the progress of these excellent companies for many years to come”.
Paul Davies, Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire added “Small businesses are the lifeblood of the Pembrokeshire economy and the three local companies that have been recognised tonight show how our rural economy is thriving. I know that many sacrifices will have been made for the businesses to grow and develop as they have and I hope that tonight’s event goes some way in showing that these sacrifices have been recognised. I would like to thank the Countryside Alliance for hosting these awards and showcasing a small number of the exciting businesses that exist throughout rural Wales.”
