A global campaign to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism has been backed by local Senedd Member Paul Davies. Mr Davies is supporting World Autism Acceptance Week, which runs from the 27 March - 2 April 2023 and the theme this year is colour. Events are taking place across the country to celebrate neurodiversity including bake sales, spectrum colour walks and colour-themed quizzes.
Mr Davies said, “World Autism Acceptance Week is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate our differences and help make the world a more inclusive place for all. There’s so much we can do to make our environments more autism-friendly. Small actions can make a big difference and so I hope everyone takes a moment to think about how they can support the cause and help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism in Pembrokeshire.
He added, “Whilst Autism Acceptance Week is a chance to celebrate, we also know that sadly, children are waiting months – and in some cases years to receive a diagnosis. It’s exactly why I believe an Autism Bill is so needed in Wales as I believe the legislation would be making a real difference to those waiting for a diagnosis today. Therefore, whilst we celebrate Autism Awareness Week, let us also remember that urgent action is needed to address the current waiting lists and I will continue to push the Welsh Government to take action, at every available opportunity.”
