Ophthalmology services – and the wait for treatment for people with wet macular degeneration has been raised at the Senedd by local MS Paul Davies. Mr Davies called on the Health Minister to bring forward an urgent statement outlining what the Welsh Government was doing to cut waiting times and ensure people living with wet macular degeneration and other conditions have access to treatment in a timely manner.
Mr Davies said, “People with wet macular degeneration and other eyecare conditions simply don’t have the time to wait and it’s vital that the Welsh Government recognises the importance of timely treatment and works with Health Boards to bring waiting times down. The additional wait for treatment could result in serious deterioration in some patients’ eyesight, which is understandably causing a lot of anxiety and upset. I will keep pushing the Welsh Government and Hywel Dda University Health Board on this matter and do everything I can to ensure that patients in Pembrokeshire are able to access their treatment in a timely manner.”
