Senedd Member Paul Davies has raised dental services with the First Minister and asked the Welsh Government to support the sector and ensure it can deliver vital services across Pembrokeshire. Mr Davies’ call comes following representations from local dentists who have made it clear that practices are uncomfortable with the new dentist contract proposed by the Welsh Government as it proposes to reduce practice’s contract values to 25% of the agreed existing levels.
Mr Davies said “I’m grateful to local dentists for bringing this urgent matter to my attention. The new dental contract could compromise the quality of care for their patients and is due to come into force next month. Therefore, I raised the issue with the First Minister as a matter of urgency and encouraged him to work with the local profession to find a workable solution.”
He added “Access to local dental services is already a problem for some people in Pembrokeshire and so it’s vital that everything possible is done to protect the local services we do have and ensure patients can receive the treatment and care that they need. Dentists are warning that they will walk away from the profession unless a solution is found and the Welsh Government must step up and find a way to support the industry.”
