Local Senedd Member Paul Davies has taken part in a Senedd debate on dementia and called on the Welsh Government to do more to support those living with dementia in rural areas and also called on Ministers to ensure that Welsh language support was available to those that need it.
Mr Davies said, “It’s estimated that there are around 1300 people living with dementia in Preseli Pembrokeshire and while those people live in the community, many of them feel that they are not part of it. I appreciate that there are challenges in delivering the proper support and care for those living with dementia in rural communities particularly in relation to transport, general dementia awareness and access to Welsh Language support. However, more must be done to empower people living with dementia in rural areas like Pembrokeshire so they can feel more confident when they’re out in the community. There’s some excellent work being done across the County and we must build on that and share best practice as widely as possible, so that it can benefit more and more people in Pembrokeshire and beyond.”
