Commenting on a BBC Wales report on the impact of automation during the pandemic, Welsh Conservative economy spokesman, Paul Davies MS said:
“Back in 2018, Welsh Conservatives raised concerns over the lack of work being undertaken by Labour ministers to prepare the Welsh economy for the impact of automation, and the pandemic has only accelerated the introduction of robotics.
“These latest comments from Manufacturing Wales are a timely reminder for the Labour-run Welsh Government, as whilst automation poses a threat to the workforce, with proper preparation that doesn’t need to spell disaster for Welsh jobs.
“Labour ministers can see the approaching iceberg – even if they don’t appear to have any answers to one of the most significant challenges to jobs and prosperity in generations.
“The ‘fourth industrial revolution’ presents opportunities too, and the Labour Government needs to be working with businesses and industry leaders to unlock them.”
