Preseli Pembrokeshire Senedd Member Paul Davies has recently met with the Hywel Dda Community Health Council to discuss local health services. The Community Health Council is the independent watchdog of NHS services across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. The meeting covered a range of issues including the CHC’s work, the Covid-19 pandemic and the Health Board’s ‘Building a healthier future after COVID-19’ consultation.
Mr Davies said, “I’m very grateful to the Hywel Dda Community Health Council for giving up their time to meet with me. As the Health Board pushes ahead with its plans to reconfigure services across west Wales, it’s vital that there’s a strong voice fighting on behalf of the people of Pembrokeshire. I made it clear that I’m completely opposed to the local Health Board’s plans to downgrade Withybush Hospital. People living in Pembrokeshire must have access to first-class health services in the local area. The constant centralising and downgrading of services in recent years has been unacceptable and it’s vital that the Health Board are challenged and that Withybush hospital gets the investment and support it needs.”
He added, “We also discussed the pandemic and the impact that it’s had on people living across the Health Board area. The Community Health Council are running two live surveys on NHS care and on maternity services during the pandemic, so that they can get a better picture of people’s experiences.
