Local Senedd Member Paul Davies has contributed to a debate on the Welsh Government’s Nitrate Vulnerable Zones proposals. The Welsh Government is intending to pass the regulations in March, with a view to them coming into effect from 1st April 2021.
Mr Davies said, “The Welsh Government’s controversial NVZ proposals have rightly been met with anger and frustration from farmers across Wales. If introduced, these regulations will not only have an impact on the financial viability of many farms, but also on the mental health of farmers, who face these regulations following a global pandemic which has also had a significant impact on their livelihoods. I highlighted examples of local farmers in Pembrokeshire who have introduced measures to address this issue and called on the Welsh Government to scrap their plans and build on this activity, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach which Natural Resources Wales, has itself previously warned could risk making water quality worse.”
