Preseli Pembrokeshire MS Paul Davies is supporting calls from cancer charities for a recovery plan for cancer services, following concerns that over 3,000 people may be missing out on vital treatments and services. Macmillan have estimated that around 3,500 people may have missed a cancer diagnosis from March to November 2020 and warned that people with new or persistent health changes should contact their GP.
Mr Davies said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has a huge impact on our health service and it’s worrying that there’s little information from the Welsh Government about managing cancer services post-Covid. Sadly, there will be people at home right now with symptoms and it’s so important that if you do have a health concern, that you contact your GP.”
He added, “Moving forward, we need to see a cancer strategy in place to tackle the backlog of cancer cases and the Welsh Government must do more to reach out to the public and let people know that the NHS is open and that you should contact your GP to get symptoms checked.”
