Local Senedd Member Paul Davies is calling on the Welsh Government to review its support for tourism businesses across Pembrokeshire and ensure that businesses are able to receive vital Government support. Mr Davies is also calling on Government Ministers in Cardiff Bay to develop a specific tourism strategy in light of the Covid-19 pandemic that better engages with tourism businesses and representatives, provides urgent funding to those businesses that are at risk of imminent closure and offers overarching guidance and support to protect the sustainability of the sector for the future.
Mr Davies said, “Tourism businesses are an integral part of Pembrokeshire’s economy and it’s frustrating to hear from businesses across the County about the barriers they’ve faced in accessing Government support. Whilst I accept that some businesses have been successful in accessing funds, others haven’t been as lucky – and they are understandably worried about their future. Therefore, the Welsh Government needs to urgently develop a sector specific strategy that better supports the tourism industry to protect its sustainability going forward.
