Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies has taken a key step towards helping to end the stigma around dementia, by becoming a Dementia Friend and supporting Alzheimer's Society Cymru's vision of a dementia-friendly Wales. Mr Davies and his staff attended a local training session to learn more about ways in which their office can better support people living with dementia in Pembrokeshire.
Mr Davies said, "I'm proud that my staff and I are Dementia Friends and we were all delighted to attend a workshop to hear about how we can provide the best possible service to those living in Pembrokeshire with dementia. With a growing number of people living with dementia, it's incumbent on all of us to do what we can to make our communities as dementia friendly as possible."
Sue Phelps, Director of Alzheimer's Society Cymru said, "Dementia doesn't care who you are, it could affect us all. Someone develops the condition every three minutes and there's currently no cure. People with dementia often feel - and are - misunderstood, marginalised and isolated. And that means that they're less likely to be able to live independently in their own communities."
