Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies has brought forward a debate calling on the Welsh Government to do more to protect those memorials across Wales. Mr Davies asked the Welsh Government to redouble their efforts to safeguard war memorials in Wales by placing a statutory duty on local authorities to protect the memorials in their areas.
Speaking from the Senedd, Mr Davies said, “I was honoured to bring forward a debate calling for better protection of war memorials in Wales and I was heartened to hear the Deputy Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport commit to looking at this matter once again. Some very positive work has been done across Wales – but sadly, we’re still hearing reports of vandalism and thefts and so it’s crucial that the Welsh Government prioritises this issue and works with stakeholders to protect our war memorials for years to come.”
