Local Assembly Member Paul Davies will once again be highlighting the need for greater protection of war memorials across Wales. On Wednesday 6th November, Mr Davies will hold a debate calling on the Welsh Government to undertake an up-to-date inventory of war memorials in Wales as well as calling for a statutory duty to be placed on local authorities to protect those memorials in their areas.
Ahead of the debate, Mr Davies said, “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to raise the important issue of war memorial protection with the Welsh Government once again. Sadly, we’re hearing far too many reports of memorials being vandalised and parts of them being stolen for scrap and so it’s time for some real action. This is a matter of honouring our heroes and preserving their stories for future generations and so the protection of their memorials is the very least that we can do. I hope the Welsh Government will work with local authorities to safeguard our memorials – our fallen heroes deserve nothing less.”
