The National Assembly’s Shadow Cabinet is getting set to explore the beautiful island in the north west corner of Wales with a trip to Anglesey.
Assembly Members, several from North Wales, will be visiting the island on Friday 28th June on the first leg of a series of visits which will take them across the country.
Welsh Conservatives are a Party for the whole of Wales, and this visit to the north of the country is a continuation of their extensive work to support the prosperity of the area.
As the Shadow Cabinet, the AMs will be meeting with businesses on Anglesey, as well as education facilities, care homes and charities to hear about the successes of the area, as well as matters where the Welsh Government can be challenged to do better.
- Visits include Group Leader, Paul Davies AM, attending Halen Môn Anglesey Sea Salt to hear about the company’s continued success, as well as a visit to Morlais Tidal Stream Energy.
- Assembly Member and Shadow Minister for North Wales, Mark Isherwood AM, will visit not-for-profit Menter Môn which works with a number of businesses – including Morlais Tidal Energy – and local communities across Anglesey and North Wales to tackle the challenges faced by rural Wales.
Mr Isherwood, along with his peers in the opposition Cabinet, has campaigned for years on the big issues facing North Wales; including the extended period of special measures for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The Party has also repeatedly challenged the Welsh Government’s outdated Local Government Funding Formula, which has resulted in Anglesey being one of five Welsh counties receiving the largest cuts his year, despite prosperity levels per head in Anglesey being the lowest in Wales at just half of those in Cardiff.
Mr Isherwood is also supporting councils and stakeholders in North Wales to drive the North Wales Growth Deal, in an effort to push the delivery of improved transport links, prosperity, and quality of life across the region.
- Shadow Environment and Sustainability Minister Andrew RT Davies will visit Wylfa Newydd power station as part of a Welsh Conservative effort to unfreeze the suspended development of the build, and to seek an update on progress since the Welsh Government called in the planning application soon after Mark Drakeford was sworn in as First Minister.
- Meanwhile, Shadow Minister for Business, Economy and Infrastructure, Russell George AM, is to tour Holyhead Port to learn about the busy hub and its plans for development.
- There will also be visits to a nursery, school and to Bangor University for Suzy Davies AM, where the Shadow Education Minister will discuss restructuring at the university and further challenges ahead.
- Shadow Social Care and Older People Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders will meet with the residents and staff of three local nursing homes to learn more about the challenges faced by the care sector, where social care is policy is also the responsibility of the Welsh Government.

Assembly Member for North Wales, Mark Isherwood AM, added:
“North Wales is repeatedly clobbered by this Welsh Labour Government, be it through its allocation of funding, council tax hikes or being made to put up with a health board in its fourth year of special measures.
“I welcome this visit as a further extension of the Shadow Cabinet’s work in the area.”
