Pembrokeshire's economy is being hampered by the Government's refusal to dual the A40.
Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies says that West Wales is being economically punished by not having the main road artery upgraded.
He was speaking in the Senedd after a trip to see the Irish road system during which he saw first hand the financial benefits of dualling main roads.
"Everyone to whom we spoke in Ireland said that dualling the roads there had improved the economy of those areas enormously," said Mr Davies.
"The transport Minister for Ireland was certain that dualling the road in his constituency had benefited the local economy. Dualling the A40 into Pembrokeshire would certainly have the same impact."
