Preseli Pembrokeshire's AM says the Welsh Assembly Government has missed a golden opportunity to promote healthy eating in schools.
As Shadow Welsh Education Minister, Mr Davies supported the Healthy Eating in Schools Measure which was passed last week (July 8).
Under what is effectively a new Welsh law, children in Pembrokeshire are now guaranteed healthy school meals. But Mr Davies says that Government action in not accepting opposition amendments has resulted in a missed opportunity.
"Despite some extremely valid amendments by the Welsh Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, the Government has forced its version of the Measure through, and in so doing, has missed a trick.
"We wanted to see the Assembly set standards for schools, to monitor effectiveness and to pursue a holistic approach which would have involved schools, parents, governors and the Assembly. But all this was rejected.
"We also wanted some simple steps taken which would have made a big difference, for example making drinking water‐only taps away from toilet areas."
