Plans for a pedestrian footbridge in Lower Town, Fishguard appear to have been kicked into the long grass by the new Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM. Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has been calling on the Welsh Government to bring forward support for a footbridge in the area for some time and despite positive commitments from previous Ministers, new correspondence from the Welsh Government shows that support for a new footbridge will not be given this year.
Mr Davies said, āIām extremely disappointed that the new Cabinet Secretary has pushed plans for a footbridge to one side for another year. The previous Minister was positive in her approach to addressing the matter and it appears that local residents are now back to square one. Yet another feasibility study will now take place, despite one being undertaken in 2012/13 and in the meantime, pedestrians will still continue to face dangers on this particular stretch of road. The Welsh Government must reconsider its position on this matter and get on with the job of making the area safer for local people because anything else is unacceptable.ā
