Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has called for the Welsh Government to do more to support armed forces communities in Wales. During a Welsh Conservative debate, Mr Davies highlighted the importance of integrating armed forces personnel in our local communities and once again reiterated calls to better protect war memorials across Wales.
Mr Davies said, “It was a pleasure to contribute to the debate on the armed forces in Wales. A strong relationship has been made between the soldiers and their families at Cawdor Barracks and the people of Pembrokeshire and it’s important that our armed forces and their families are fully integrated into our local communities, given that they share the same public services and community facilities. Any support for local community initiatives must therefore be supported by the Welsh Government.”
He added, “The debate also gave me an opportunity to once again call for the Welsh Government to do more to protect war memorials across Wales. I have been campaigning for some time for the Welsh Government to put a statutory duty on local authorities to protect our military heritage so that future generations can learn about previous conflicts and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.”
