RESPONDING to reports today that universities across Wales may have to cut courses because of a steep reduction in funding next year, Shadow Education Minister Paul Davies said:
"During an economic recession it's vital the Assembly Government continues to invest in education.
"Welsh Conservatives have said for some time that if budgets were cut in HE and FE then course cuts would inevitably follow.
"At a time of high unemployment and recession is reckless to be cutting funding for universities. It risks long-term damage to the Welsh economy, skills base, and the promotion of life-long learning."
"I understand WAG budgets are under severe strain and will continue to be for the foreseeable future but it's critical the Minister re-prioritises spending on higher education and makes full use of all European Structural Funding that's available."
