COMMENTING on today's concerns by education watchdog Estyn about a drop in foreign language learning in schools in Wales, Shadow Education Minister Paul Davies AM said:
"Despite numerous initiatives and ministerial pledges foreign language learning in schools in Wales has declined at a worrying rte over the last decade.
"A generation of children are being denied the gift of languages because existing government policies have failed.
"Ministers need to overhaul their approach towards foreign language learning which will equip Welsh students and the future workforce with a valuable skill with which to compete in the global economy.
"Without urgent remedial action this abysmal record will get worse."
