Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire Paul Davies has recently met with local school children who have set up a petition to ban single-use plastic milk bottles. Pupils from St Aidan's Church in Wales VA School in Wiston are calling on the Welsh Government to ban single use plastic milk bottles in schools, given that every day in Wales, approximately 300kg of plastic milk bottles are used as part of the free milk scheme.
Mr Davies said, “I was delighted to meet with pupils from St Aidan's Church in Wales VA School and hear more about their efforts to ban single use plastic milk bottles in schools across Wales. The children have put forward an admirable argument and have already gathered over 300 signatures from people right across Wales. It’s great to see the children thinking creatively about issues such as waste and recyclable products as well as thinking about our fossil fuel usage.
He added, “I was delighted to raise this issue with the Minister for Housing and Local Government and ask about how the Welsh Government can support the pupils and their cause. Of course, there’s still time to show your support and I’d strongly encourage everyone to visit the Assembly’s website and register your support for this worthwhile cause. The petition will run until midday on the 10th April and details can be found here - https://www.assembly.wales/en/gethome/e-petitions/Pages/petitiondetail.aspx?PetitionID=1663”
