Two thousand new jobs could be created across the Cardiff capital region, as the UK Government today awarded £22.2m to media.cymru to make the region a global hub for media innovation and production.
Led by Cardiff University, media.cymru brings together 24 media production, broadcast, technology, university, and local leadership partners for the first time to build a programme to supercharge media innovation by responding to emerging technologies, increasing small businesses' capacity for innovation, and addressing skills needs for the future.
Commenting, Wales’ Shadow Economy Minister Paul Davies MS, said:
“The media industry is hugely important, not only as a cultural asset, but because the supply chain is so diverse and far-reaching. Therefore, the impact of the UK Government’s significant investment in media.cymru will not just be felt in the Cardiff city region, but across the whole of Wales.
“Wales needs leadership on re-skilling workers, growing bilingualism and regional economies, and responding to new technologies – just like this programme does – and it’s great to see the Conservative Government deliver just that.”
