Shadow Welsh Education Minister Paul Davies has expressed fears that Pembrokeshire's 6th formers may lose out if post 16 education in the County is reorganised.
The Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member is seeking reassurances that youngsters studying at the County's schools won't be penalised under Government plans to change the way sixth forms and colleges operate.
"The Welsh Assembly Government has said it wants to "promote greater joint working and integration between schools and further education institutions", explained Mr Davies.
"While it may make sense for some nearby schools to have closer links with the college, I am concerned that these changes could lead to 6th formers from further away having to travel long distances for lessons.
"Integration may work for schools and colleges in South Wales but one size does not fit all and we need to ensure that any alterations to the system work for Pembrokeshire.
"Any changes to the way sixth forms and colleges are run must have broad support, including that of the communities they serve.
"We share the desire of the Welsh Assembly Government to develop a successful sixth form and Further Education sector which is properly run and delivers results.
"This is all the more important as the recession deepens and we need a skilled workforce to build a strong Welsh economy."
