Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies recently attended an event at the Senedd to show his support for World Kidney Day 2018. The event showcased the work of the Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales and in particular its befriending service which provides support to renal patients by involving suitably experienced and trained renal patient volunteers who themselves are renal patients or carers.
Mr Davies said, “It was a pleasure to meet with the Paul Popham Fund ahead of World Kidney Day and learn more about their plans for the future, including their plans to extend their services to Pembrokeshire. There’s an estimated 10,000 people living with a renal condition in Wales and so it’s important we ensure support and guidance is made available to patients undergoing renal treatments.”
He added, “World Kidney Day (Thursday 8th March) is also a great opportunity to once again reiterate the importance of good kidney health. Therefore, I’d encourage everyone in Pembrokeshire to learn more about the importance of preventative behaviour, such as drinking water, keeping fit and active and monitoring blood pressure. Small steps like these can make a huge difference in preventing a kidney condition from developing and could ultimately save a life.
