Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has pledged his support for International Older Person’s Day which took place on the 1st October 2015, by signing a cross-party Assembly Statement of Opinion. International Older Person’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the significant contribution older people make to our local communities and indeed, society as a whole.
Mr Davies said, “I’m delighted to support International Older Person’s Day and put on record my gratitude and respect for the contribution that older people make to Pembrokeshire. I’m also supporting the Older People’s Commissioner’s ‘Say NO to Ageism’ campaign, which aims to challenge the myths and misconceptions about older people and change the way society thinks about growing older.”
He added, “In Pembrokeshire, there is a higher proportion of elderly residents, some of whom are socially isolated, over-trusting and in some cases suffering from illnesses such as dementia. Therefore, we must do all that we can to ensure that vulnerable older people in particular have access to the care and support that they need, especially people living in the more rural areas of our County.”
