Local Assembly Member Paul Davies recently took part in a debate on the Welsh Government’s local government settlement and its effect on the delivery of services in Pembrokeshire. The debate, tabled by the Welsh Conservatives recognised the disproportionate cut to rural local authorities across Wales.
Paul Davies said, “I was pleased to take part in the debate on funding for local authorities and the effect on the delivery of key services in Pembrokeshire. Whilst Pembrokeshire faces a cut of 2.8%; whilst Cardiff, for example faces a cut of just 0.1%. Sadly, this will not come as a surprise to people across the County who have seen this Welsh Government centralise services against their will, a lack of investment in local infrastructure and a lack funding to boost businesses in the area.”
He added, “The issue of fairness in the local government funding settlement must now be addressed, so that rural areas like Pembrokeshire do not continue to bear the brunt of the Welsh Government’s decision-making. Pembrokeshire plays a significant role in boosting many of Wales’ industries and it’s high time that that was recognised by the Welsh Government.”
