Preseli Pembrokeshire’s Senedd Member Paul Davies has raised concerns over vaccine arrangements for adults with learning disabilities in care home settings with the Welsh Government. Mr Davies called for the Health Minister to work with care settings and ensure that vulnerable residents and those with learning disabilities are able to receive their vaccine in their care setting, rather than being transported to vaccine centres. Mr Davies also called for more wider support for the sector to protect future provision and maintain the sector’s sustainability post-pandemic.
Mr Davies said, “It’s crucial that residents in care settings are able to receive their vaccine comfortably and with as little distress as possible and following local concerns from providers, it’s vital that the Welsh Government provide some leadership and support to the sector. We also know that many care homes are at risk of closure and had to incur increased costs during the pandemic and so I’ve asked the Welsh Government to come forward with concrete proposals and resources to better support the sector and protect care homes and residents for the future.”
