The Pembrokeshire branch of ASD Family Help has recently met with local Senedd Member Paul Davies. The branch, set up and led by Melissa Hutchings provides support to autistic people in Pembrokeshire in the form of information, advice, signposting, training and one-to-one and group support.
Mr Davies said, “It was a pleasure to speak to Melissa about the ASD Family Help branch and I’m sure it will be a huge support to families in Pembrokeshire. We talked about the feasibility of an autism alert card, which could be of real value to people in the county and we also discussed diagnostic assessments and the need to ensure that training is delivered across sectors, organisations and people so that autism is acknowledged, awareness is built on and support is adjusted.”
He added, “I've been pushing for an Autism Bill for several years now and I will keep raising the provision of autism services with the Welsh Government and calling for action to improve waiting times for a diagnosis. In the meantime, it's great to hear that this group is supporting autistic children and their parents across Pembrokeshire.”
