Local Assembly Member Paul Davies is supporting a new petition led by Save Withybush Action Team (SWAT) calling for the return of 24 hour consultant led obstetrics, paediatrics and SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit) to Haverfordwest. The new petition comes in light of Dr Chris Overton’s review of Hywel Dda’s perinatal outcomes, which looks at evidence from the audit of the All Wales Perinatal Survey (AWPS) 2012-16 and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists’ (RCOG) Each Baby Counts initiative in 2015.
Mr Davies said, “I’m pleased to once again add my voice to those campaigning to see services re-established at Withybush hospital. Dr Overton’s review highlights the significant impact that the Welsh Government’s centralisation of services has had on perinatal mortality in Pembrokeshire. Therefore, it’s crucial that in light of this new evidence, we all work together to press the Welsh Government to reverse their centralisation agenda and reinstate our much-needed services. I will of course, be raising this matter directly with the Welsh Government as soon as the opportunity presents itself and I encourage everyone across Pembrokeshire to download the petition via the SWAT Facebook page and make sure you show your support.”
