Local Assembly Member Paul Davies recently attended a cross-party group meeting on Beer and Pubs to celebrate the growing number of breweries in Wales and the contribution pubs make to local communities’ economies. The meeting welcomed politicians from all parties to hear from representatives of the pub industry about the current challenges facing local pubs.
Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies said, “Many pubs across Wales showcase food and drink which is, more often than not, sourced locally in the area, providing visitors with an opportunity to get a real taste of what Wales has to offer. We’re particularly lucky in Pembrokeshire as it’s a natural embodiment of tourism and agriculture, the area’s two most prominent industries – and so we have plenty of local food and drink to showcase.”
He added, “Pubs are also important community hubs and centres where you can take part in quizzes, book club meetings and watch sports events. In fact, these days pubs are doing even more – in some cases they double up as libraries even post offices can be found operating from there. Therefore, it’s absolutely crucial that we continue to support our local pubs and ensure these vital community hubs remain in our communities.”
