Dogs Trust visited the Welsh Assembly to discuss their ‘Pawlicy Priorities’ for Wales with Assembly Members.
The animal welfare charity, which has 21 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland, including one in Bridgend, also officially unveiled their plans for their Cardiff rehoming centre, which is due to open in 2021. The charity cares for around 15,000 dogs each year and never puts a healthy dog down. In the last year Dogs Trust has rehomed more than 650 dogs in Wales alone.
Hosted by Paul Davies AM, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire, the reception gave Dogs Trust an opportunity to draw attention to its continuing concerns about the breeding and selling of dogs.
Paul Davies AM said: “I was delighted to sponsor the Dogs Trust launch and speak at the event. I enjoyed speaking with representatives from the Dogs Trust who are passionate about the work they do to nurture dogs and actively look for their forever homes. I was pleased to learn that work has started in the ground-breaking new dogs home in Cardiff, and I wish the project every success.”
The Dogs Trust Public Affairs team also spoke with AMs about their efforts to improve the online advertising of pets for sale through its work chairing the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) and the need to introduce PAAG’s minimum standards as a legal requirement.
