Preseli Pembrokeshire Senedd Member Paul Davies has expressed his anger and frustration with Natural Resources Wales over the handling of the Withyhedge landfill site in Haverfordwest. Mr Davies wrote to Natural Resources Wales asking for confirmation that Resources Management UK Ltd (RML), the operator at the Withyhedge landfill site has complied with the Regulation 36 Enforcement Notice, by its deadline of the 14th May. Natural Resources Wales has responded to say that it cannot confirm whether the operator has complied, as it’s waiting for paperwork from the operator, which will then need to be reviewed and that there’s no set time for that paperwork to be submitted.
Mr Davies said, “I’m shocked and incredibly disappointed that this matter continues to drag on. The local community has suffered for months and it appears as though there’s no end in sight. I don’t believe it’s right or acceptable that the operator has not already submitted the necessary paperwork to comply with the latest Enforcement Notice issued by Natural Resources Wales.”
He added, “How long are the community expected to put up with this? Residents are experiencing health problems as a result of the stench and emissions from the site and this should be resolved as a matter of urgency. As a result, I’ve written again to Natural Resources Wales expressing my concerns. In the meantime, I’ll keep pushing for the Welsh Government to intervene, hold the operator accountable for its actions and launch an independent public inquiry into this whole scandal.”
