Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has shown his commitment to supporting people affected by dementia, by helping raise awareness of dementia with Alzheimer’s Society Cymru. Mr Davies joined Alzheimer’s Society Cymru to mark Dementia Awareness Week 2017 and is supporting the campaign’s Statement of Opinion, tabled by Angela Burns AM.
Mr Davies said, “I’m pleased to show my support for Dementia Awareness Week and to hear more about the important work done by Alzheimer’s Society Cymru to make Wales a more dementia-friendly place. By 2055, there will be over 100,000 people living with dementia in Wales and so it’s absolutely crucial that we work together to improve care and services.”
“I’m particularly pleased that the Alzheimer’s Society are calling for an acknowledgement of the specific challenges faced in rural areas and I look forward to continuing to work with them in highlighting these problems and encouraging the Welsh Government to do more to tackle dementia in rural areas.”
Sue Phelps, Director of Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, said: “We’re so pleased that Paul Davies could support us this week. We are calling on people in Pembrokeshire to take action this Dementia Awareness Week by volunteering, donating or campaigning for change. Dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. It’s set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes, and so many people are facing it alone.
“People with dementia often feel – and are – misunderstood, marginalised and isolated but with the right support and understanding they can continue to live fulfilling lives and make a contribution to their communities.”
