Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies, alongside other Welsh Conservative AMs, this week urged the Welsh Labour Government to reconsider introducing a Council Tax freeze in Wales for next year.
Welsh Labour Ministers have once again decided against a Council Tax freeze for the year 2012, which would provide significant support to already hard-pressed pensioners and families throughout Wales. The implementation of a Council Tax freeze in both England and Scotland, where the SNP government was supported in this by the Scottish Labour Party, are already proving to be beneficial for families and pensioners during these difficult economic times. Families in Pembrokeshire however will not experience the same advantages, despite the availability of funding to extend the scheme to Welsh families, as a result of the Welsh Government's highly discouraging decision.
Commenting on this Paul Davies, AM for Preseli Pembrokeshire stated;
"During these difficult economic times, in which hard-working, honest people are forced to sacrifice so much, the Welsh Government needs to do more to support these individuals and their families. One promising way of achieving this is through a Council Tax freeze, the benefits of which are already being felt in England and Scotland."
"I will continue to urge Welsh Labour Ministers to reconsider the option of a Council Tax freeze as I feel it is hugely important to give something back to hard pressed pensioners and families in Pembrokeshire. It is highly disappointing that the Welsh Labour government continues to refuse to consider this option to ensure that Welsh taxpayers are treated on a par with others in the UK, particularly given that there is sufficient funding available to the Welsh Government to implement it."
