Interim Leader of the Welsh Conservative group Paul Davies AM has today challenged the First Minister over his Government’s record on supporting children and young people with learning disabilities
This follows the damning report published by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, which showed significant failings in the delivery of support for children and young people with learning disabilities.
However, the Welsh Labour Government has consistently failed to take decisive action to deliver a step change in the level of support offered to those children and young people who have learning disabilities
Mr Davies said:
“It’s absolutely crucial that the Welsh Government takes action to address the concerns highlighted by the Children’s Commissioner and does more to support children and young people with learning disabilities. It’s simply unacceptable that so many young people feel ‘socially isolated’ in Wales.
“The Welsh Government must redouble its efforts and start delivering real outcomes for children and young people and that includes supporting the upcoming Autism Bill, which has the support and backing of independent bodies such as the National Autistic Society and the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
