An Assembly statement of opinion highlighting the importance of early diagnosis of heart conditions has been signed by local Assembly Member Paul Davies. Mr Davies has subscribed to statement of opinion OPIN-2018-0111 which recognises the importance of early diagnosis of heart conditions in reducing the hundreds of deaths each year from conditions which are often left undiagnosed.
Mr Davies said, “I’m pleased that the local Welsh Charity, Welsh Hearts, is funding health screening initiatives and are on a mission to help protect and promote the heart health of young people in Wales. To date, the organisation have issued over 1,000 defibrillators across Wales, trained almost 50,000 people in CPR and has screened approximately 2,000 people.
It’s clear that progress has been made in recent years in non-invasive screening tests to identify vascular and cardiac disease in its early or asymptomatic phase, which shows how important early and accessible screening is across the country.
Therefore, I sincerely hope that the Welsh Government will now commit to exploring the rolling out of a screening initiative to all young people in Wales”.
