COMMENTING on figures obtained by Conservatives at Westminster which show only one per cent of contracts so far awarded to firms for the 2012 London Olympics have gone to Welsh companies, Shadow Sports Minister and Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies said:
"These figures are truly shocking and demonstrate the Labour-Plaid Assembly Government's failure to match words with action.
"Ever since the Olympics were awarded to London Assembly Government ministers have claimed they will ensure Wales takes full advantage of the games.
"These figures suggest existing Assembly Government strategies are failing.
"We know that Heritage Minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas has had very little contact with the games organisers. The attitude of the minister and his cabinet colleagues has been nothing short of complacent.
"Every nation and region of Britain wants to play a role in the 2012 games. Wales should be forcing its way to the front of that race.
"There are no prizes for being a runner-up in this event."
